A left turn onto Line 86 (formerly Hwy. 86) west will take us past several interesting businesses, from pellets and poles to tractors and toys. Between Wallenstein and Dorking, there are at least 40 businesses, on or within sight of Line 86. A stop at the General Store in Wallenstein will prove most interesting. It is operated by Mennonite owners, and the majority of the customers are Mennonites.
From Wallenstein follow Line 86 west over the bridge on the Conestogo, the Trail turns left onto Powell Road. Maybe a visit to a furniture shop or a sawmill is on one's itinerary. Whatever the season, many differing sights present themselves, taking one's thoughts back in time or to other places. Most will involve horsedrawn equipment or vehicles. Reaching Lawson Line, a turn left leads east, to Herrgott Road.
A right turn on Herrgott Road takes one south, past Hawkesville to Ament Line. There the Trail turns right and follows Ament Line. One will not want to miss the dry goods store or the various shops with furniture, bikes and even paint or concrete products. Both the David Martin and Old Order groups have meeting houses with adjoining cemeteries on the way to Linwood. |
