The Finance Department provides fiscal leadership to the Township of Wellesley. The Finance Department is responsible for the collection of property taxes and other revenues, co-ordination of the current and capital budget estimates, preparation of financial statements, maintenance of accounting records, payments to suppliers, provision of payroll and auditing services. The Treasurer monitors the Township's short and long-term corporate financial planning, develops, manages and monitors reserve funds, banking and insurance strategies, securities and asset management and associated by-law preparation. Budget The budget process begins in early October of each year and the budget is usually approved at the end of March of the next year. Council, Department Heads and Committees all have input in the budget process. The final draft is discussed in open Council and incorporates all submissions and comments from all the parties involved before it is approved.
Audit The audit process usually starts in November of each year and is usually completed by the end of March. The Townships financial statements are usually presented to Council at the end of April of each year. Our auditors, who certify that our accounting processes are consistent with the approved standards in Ontario, review all our financial documents.
